Former Tango Gameworks developer and Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami, has teased his return to work after a non-complete clause recently expired.
Speaking on Twitter, the Evil Within director commented, “Now that I’ve broken the spell of non-competition on myself, I guess I should get to work.”
Mikami-san departed Tango Gameworks — where he worked on the likes of The Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo — earlier this year more than a decade after founding the company. Prior to that, the veteran game designed collaborated with Suda51 on Shadows of the Damned and worked at PlatinumGames to helm Vanquisher.

He’s best known for his work on the Resident Evil franchise however, having directed the original 1996 survival horror classic and going on work on its numerous sequels and directing the genre-defining Resident Evil 4 in 2005. Interestingly enough, Mikami played this year’s remake of the game, and said he “enjoyed it very much.”
In his downtime, Mikami has been busy playing multiple games beyond Resident Evil 4 Remake, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Ghost of Tsushima, as well as travelling.
